HerStory: Women's Issues Through Literature
Please join us in our new monthly reading group. Books and discussions will include topics that revolve around women's issues in society as perceived through literature. We will discuss the history of each concept and discuss how far women's roles have changed in society over the years. Our discussions will be fun and lively with a chance to explore interesting topics and make new friends.
The book for February is:
A Charmed Life: Growing Up in Macbeth's Castle by Liza Campbell
~A Charmed Life tells the story of Liza Campbell, the last child to be born at the impressive and renowned Cawdor Castle, the same locale featured in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Increasingly overwhelmed by his enormous responsibilities, Liza’s father Hugh, the twenty-fifth Thane of Cawdor, tipped into madness fueled by drink, drugs, and extramarital affairs. Over the years, the castle was transformed into an arena of reckless extravagance and terrifying domestic violence, as Liza and her siblings watched their father destroy himself, his family, and their centuries-old legacy. |
